About HAODS

Horsham Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (HAODS) is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) based in Horsham, West Sussex with the aim of:

…advancing the education of the public in West Sussex in all aspects of the dramatic arts and developing the application of such arts, by encouraging participation and undertaking regular presentations of theatrical productions and other events.

Originally founded in 1954 as a members organisation, we became a charity in 2024 to better achieve our mission. We retain a vibrant membership of over a hundred people taking part both on and off-stage.

We’re always keen to welcome new members from throughout the community. Many friendships have been formed over the years at HAODS, and one of the most frequent pieces of feedback we receive from our members is the real sense of community and family that we have established. A great deal of time and effort goes into creating a HAODS show, and coming together with like-minded people to accomplish a common goal is incredibly rewarding. Find out more about joining us.

We stage two large musical productions a year, one in Spring and one in Autumn, usually at the Capitol theatre in Horsham (currently closed for refurbishment), as well as regular plays and other shows. Rehearsals for the larger shows are usually held at HAODS House on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and Sunday during the day (Sundays are usually only closer to a show). We also have our Junior section who perform their own show every year. Find out what we’re up to next.

HAODS is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – and is governed by a “committee” formed of the trustees. A CIO is a corporate body (like a company) with a constitution that is registered with and regulated by the Charity Commission.

The fifth HAODS House, our current, temporary headquarters in Southwater has:

  • Two large rehearsal spaces, both available for hire;
  • Extensive costume, set and prop storage areas;
  • Backstage working area;
  • Meeting room (also available to hire);
  • Relaxed seating area;
  • Plentiful car parking.

We are currently searching for a new, permanent home, please get in touch if you might be able to help us.
