Pride & Prejudice

by Jane Austen - adapted by Stacey Fox and Barry Syder, at The Capitol Studio,
19th to 22nd June 2013

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife".

This Jane Austen classic beautifully and comically portrays English society in the early 1800s. The protagonists fight their natural instincts and battle with their heads and hearts from the very first page. Knowing what is expected and following the rules sees classes clashing in a whirlwind of hilarity and heartache. Potential for true happiness and love is trapped behind pride whilst prejudice forces an array of internal struggles and torment.

Mr and Mrs Bennet were blessed with five daughters, but in a world where only male heirs could inherit an estate, the Bennet sisters could soon lose their happy home. Mrs Bennet is desperate for all her daughters to be wed and sets out on a quest to find any man that would have them. When two extremely wealthy bachelors, various gallant officers and even a creepy cousin set foot in the county; hearts are set on fire. Plans are put in place and rules begin to be broken. You will fall in love with the vast array of complex characters and be captured by the hope of a happy ending!
